YWCA Martin Luther King, Jr. Event
Friday Night
January 13, 2017
6-9pm
Newburyport City Hall
How do we stand together for racial justice and compassion in a time when
white supremacy and xenophobia are on the rise in our communities?
The fiery leadership of Dr. King provides us with a roadmap for action.
Dr. King knew that in order to confront the racism, poverty, and state violence
that are woven into the fabric of our society we must take risks and put ourselves on the line.
Let's reject the use of Dr. King's memory as a comfort for the complacent and reclaim it as a
galvanizing force for social justice!
Let's explore ways in which we can dismantle racism and white supremacy in our communities.
Together we can resurrect Dr. King's message. We can work together to create a
beloved community based on principles of justice, compassion, and engagement and
say NO to the forces that would divide us.
We will be joined by Jennifer Yanco, visiting researcher at the African Studies Center at BU
and author of Misremembering Dr. King: Revisiting the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
