LOCAL MAYORS, BUSINESS LEADERSAND others as they SIGN-UP TO ‘TAKE IT OFF’ TO Benefit THE Nate Bibaud recovery fund
Pledges accepted; tickets available to An Evening of Courage, Determination and Hope;
The Provident Bank pledges $5,000 matching funds
The roster of volunteers who will “rip it or clip it” to raise money and awareness for the Nate Bibaud Recovery Fund is growing with who’s who of local dignitaries and business leaders. Among those agreeing to have their hair shaved, buzzed or cut are Newburyport Mayor Donna Holaday, Amesbury Mayor Thatcher Kezer, Essex County Sheriff Frank Cousins, local developerDavid Hall, Newburyport building commissioner Gary Calderwood, local community leader and former collegiate hockey stand-out Ralph Cox, and others (a complete list is below). In addition, The Provident Bankwill match pledges up to $5,000 made in support of President & CEO Charlie Cullen’s buzz cut for a total donation of $10,000.
The public is welcome to attend Rip It ‘n Clip It: An Evening of Courage, Determination and Hope, on Friday, June 17, 6-11:30pm, at Amesbury Sports Park, when these brave souls and others will have their heads shaved, buzzed or cut, or their chests waxed for all to witness. Tickets are $10 and proceeds benefit the Nathaniel Bibaud Recovery Fund (event details follow).
Nate Bibaud, 27, was born and spent most of his childhood in Amesbury. He sustained a debilitating spinal cord injury, which left him paralyzed from the chest down, in a December 2010 car accident in St. Croix, USVirgin Islands
Rip It ‘n Clip It: An Evening of Courage, Determination and Hope
The Rip It ‘n Clip It event on June 17 at Amesbury Sports Park will feature a silent auction, including weekend getaways, sports memorabilia, Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots tickets, and two tickets to the New York City world premier and private reception of actor Steve Carell’s new movie Crazy, Stupid, Love in July. Carell is the star of The Office and the hit film The 40-Year Old Virgin, which featured him in a hilarious chest-waxing scene. Expected to add to the evening’s star power will be former Boston Bruins Rick Middleton and Terry O’Reilly, who will sign complimentary autographs. Interlocks Salon & Day Spa owner Ginny Eramo and Inn Street Barber Shop owner Esther Sayer, both in Newburyport, will supervise the hair cutting and chest waxing. The evening will also include refreshments and live music from the local band, “Michael and the Uprising.”
