Yankee ADU's is a local company focused on the design, permitting, installation/construction of Accessory Dwelling Units, often referred to as Backyard Cottages. Local Real Estate Broker and developer John P. Wells, always interested in addressing housing needs to serve the local community, immersed himself in this new market. Massachusetts recently passed a law allowing for an additional auxiliary residence to be placed on most residential lots by right, bypassing the cumbersome zoning regulations that slow the process down or block it.
Intended to help alleviate the housing crisis, this has spurred many homeowners to create a "family compound", with seniors or adult children living in second, smaller homes on the same property. Some are building these as investments, as they can be rented out to anyone, not just relatives, or even sold as condos.
