Director Of Development & Marketing
The Firehouse Center for the Arts offers exciting, inventive performing arts including theater, concerts, education programs, and community events. The Firehouse’s 191-seat theater gives audiences the opportunity to be up close to the art and artists from original musicals to up and coming singer-songwriters. The Firehouse’s education department provides theater-based training and performance opportunities from vacation programs to productions to classes.
Scope and Function:
The Director of Development and Marketing will lead the Firehouse Center for the Arts’ fundraising and marketing efforts. This role serves as one of the primary faces of the organization, clearly demonstrating to the community a strong passion for the mission and a deep love of the arts. This role focuses on securing and expanding relationships, memberships, and sponsorships with individual, corporate, and institutional donors through a variety of methods, including membership giving campaigns, direct solicitation, grant-seeking, corporate sponsorships, and planned giving. 
The Director will also energize the Firehouse’s marketing efforts including print materials, social media, and press appearances. The director will review campaigns and ticketing trends with a focus on maximizing ticketing revenue.  The Director reports to and will work closely with the Executive Director. In addition, they are part of the Senior Leadership Team and will work closely with the Board of Directors to drive revenue growth and raise the Firehouse Center for the Arts’ visibility throughout the region.
In addition to supervising a Marketing Coordinator, the Director also oversees Front of House and Box Office team via the Senior House Manager.
Responsibilities include:
Development and Fundraising

  • Leading solicitation efforts across funding categories (major donors, planned giving, annual fund, and institutional giving)
  • Cultivating and stewarding existing donors, including donor communications, gift processing, and donor database management
  • Maximizing CRM to manage donor relationships, donor communication, and centralized data; utilizing best practices and proven methods to grow the Firehouse’s donor base
  • Working closely with the Executive Director to develop portfolios
  • Seeking grants utilizing compelling storytelling and enthusiasm for the impact of the arts on the local community and its members
  • Leading membership recruitment and benefits delivery with a focus on recruiting new members and growing their support over time
  • Planning and executing several annual events to increase our fundraising including the spring fundraising event and the annual Gala (fall)
Finance and Administration
  • Working with the Finance team to ensure all revenue is properly recorded and that organizational activity is in compliance with funder use and reporting regulations
  • Collaborating with the Board to develop and execute successful stewardship and fundraising strategies
  • Developing and implementing long-term financial goals and developing annual revenue plans
  • Managing Marketing Staff, along with Sr. House Manager, who oversees front of house, and Box Office team members, as they are first-line with our members, donors, and potential donors
  • Engaging with volunteers- including members of the Board of Directors- as part of resource development process
Experience & Qualifications Required:
  • 8+ years development and marketing experience, including demonstrated success in securing directly or through direct reports revenue from individuals, businesses, and foundations, including major gifts.
  • 3+ years of experience managing team members in a non-profit organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience, in Marketing and Communications or Non-profit Development
  • Demonstrated experience engaging donors at all levels and from diverse backgrounds, including individuals, major donors, businesses, foundations,
  • Demonstrated success in growing revenue and donor base
  • Pro-active work style; strategic thinking, flexible collaboration, and strong communication and project management skills.
  • Meticulous and focused in nature, with superior attention to detail and a focus on creating compelling written and oral communications
  • Experience with donor databases, record-keeping and donor segmentation
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, communication with creativity, respectfulness and professionalism
Salary: 80K, health benefits paid 75% of individual plan cost, paid time off, Mass PFML, parking
