Whitman on Walls WoW!
WoW! is composed of seven short films taken from Compagnia de' Colombari's live performance More or Less I Am (played gratis all around New York from 2008-2019), which draws its inspiration from Walt Whitman's Song of Myself. A drive-in movie meets poetry slam, Wow! fuses the theatrical and literary and brings Whitman’s iconic poem into the present moment. The seven films were recorded over three weeks during lockdown, with over fifty performers from around the world, each piece embodying Whitman's words. Each screening will be followed by a local poet who will have the opportunity to talk back to Whitman in their own words, challenging or quarreling with him, thus weaving together film and live recitation. Invited local poets will be participating in this event.

Custom House Maritime Museum back lawn The lawn will be open starting at 6:00 PM for picnics with the films and poems beginning as the sun sets at 7:00 PM and ending at around 8:00PM. Community Service of Newburyport, Inc. is inviting local non-profits to attend and offer information from 6-7:00 PM on the variety of services they offer to those in our community. This is an opportunity for people to know where they can receive assistance and for people to know how to help their local neighbors. Please bring your own (low) chair or blanket...and enjoy!
Fees/Admission
This is a FREE ... goodwill offering appreciated, family-friendly event that will showcase nine local poets, including Rhina Espaillat, Beth Platow, Mark Stevick, Daniel Speers, and five thrilling young poets from Newburyport. *Community Service of Newburyport, Inc. will be collecting jugs of laundry detergent to share with those in need.
