"The Pop Ups" at the Firehouse Center for the Arts
2015 Grammy Award Nominees for Best Children's Album! Join us for one of Time Out New York Kids' top 15 kids' bands in the nation!
The Pop Ups (Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein) are a two-time-GRAMMY-nominated, Brooklyn-based musical duo which the Wall Street Journal says “reflects the creativity percolating on the independent children's music scene.” In 2014, the duo made their national TV debut on Sprout’s “Sunny Side Up Show,” and released their Grammy-nominated album, "Appetite for Construction."
Jason Rabinowitz, a performer and dad who has appeared on Broadway (“One Man Two Guvnors” and Encores! City Center), and Jacob Stein (an artist and musician who has taught at Columbia University) have been creative collaborators for several years now. Not content to stand still onstage playing their guitars, The Pop Ups perform using cardboard props, hand-painted sets, and a colorful cast of original puppets, crafting a world of magic that engages, educates and delights all ages.
The Pop Ups perform regularly at venues in the New York City area and also tour regionally, including stops along the Yo Gabba Gabba Live tour at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The Huffington Post says:
"The smart money is on not just another nomination, but a victory at next year's Grammy Award ceremony. The album is THAT good."
NPR’s All Things Considered says:
“Brooklyn duo The Pop Ups take the listeners back to 1985… if MTV had a kids music channel in their video heyday, this song, "All These Shapes," would have been in constant rotation….The Pop-Ups know that you don't need your parent's smart phone to have the world at your fingertips.
