Newburyport Art Presents Sirens and Ghosts by Featured Artist Lisa Arcomano
Newburyport, MA - The Newburyport Art Association (NAA) is excited to announce the opening of Lisa Arcomano’s Featured Artist show on July 26th, on view until August 4th in the Hills gallery. Please join us at the opening reception on July 26th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. which will be held free and open to the public at our 65 Water Street building! Lisa Arcomano is an accomplished watercolorist and member of the NAA’s Watercolor Featured Interest Group. Themed around “Sirens and Ghosts,” Arcomano’s upcoming showcase is a testament to the places that touch her heart, whether that is the sandy beaches and ocean marshes of Plum Island or the remote Italian hilltop town of Roccanova, where her paternal grandfather was born. In these places, ancestral ghosts call to her from ancient streets and from the mountainous surrounding countryside, dotted with vineyards and olive groves. Born in NYC, Arcomano studied fine arts at Cornell University and received a BA in art history in 1978 from Barnard College, Columbia University. In 1981, she received an MA in art history from the University of Chicago. After a successful career working in top administrative roles in such art museums as the Georgia O’Keefe Museum in Santa Fe, the Rubin Museum of Art (RMA) in New York City and the Princeton University Art museum, she retired in 2018 to focus on her own art-making. Arcomano has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions at the Newburyport Art Association since moving to Massachusetts and was included in two juried exhibitions at the Marblehead Arts Association. In 2022, the Hemphill Family Foundation awarded her the “Art Adventure Grant,” which she used to spend two months in Roccanova, Basilicata, Italy, creating a series of watercolors based on her stay. With this show, be transported to the nearby coast as you have never seen it before or foray into the foreign vistas of Roccanova. Delve into the artist’s distinct watercolor worlds of swirling clouds and stylized countrysides, brought to life by her one-of-a-kind mark-making. Lovers of watercolor will be sure to enjoy this masterful showcase of the medium, but the mesmerizing appeal of Arcomano’s work is interdisciplinary! The galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. The Hills gallery has an accessible entrance.
