Newburyport Art presents National Juried Show
Newburyport Art (NAA) is thrilled to announce its first National Juried Show, which will be on view throughout the building and in all the galleries! This exhibition was juried by Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) Curator Jane Winchell, who selected 112 works from over 420 submissions. Newburyport Art invites art enthusiasts, collectors, and the general public to join artists and juror Jane Winchell on May 24th from 5:00pm–7:00pm for a free, public opening and a celebratory reception and awards presentation.
This exhibition marks Newburyport Art’s first ever National Juried Show. Following the success of last year’s 26th Annual Regional Juried Show and its wider-than-expected reach across the country, NAA opened the call for submissions on a national level. The works selected for the National Juried Show feature a variety of different mediums, including photography, glass, fiber arts, mixed media, sculpture, drawing and more. Themes around the environment, wildlife, and the human relationship to both are present in the collection. The work of 98 individual artists will be represented in the galleries and online.
Jane Winchell is the Sarah Fraser Robbins Director of PEM’s Dotty Brown Art & Nature Center and Curator of the museum's Natural History collection. During her tenure, Winchell has curated over 25 exhibitions for the museum about our evolving relationship with the world, ranging from shows about biomimetic design to art made from trash. Her exhibitions and projects regularly feature works by contemporary artists, designers, and scientists.
The galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am–5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm–5:00pm. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays. The ground-floor Hills Gallery has an accessible entrance. More information, as well as an online gallery is available at newburyportart.org.
Founded in 1948, Newburyport Art is dedicated to promoting and exhibiting members’ work and to providing art education and access to the visual arts for the entire community.
