Newburyport Art presents Featured Artist: Sarah Demrow Dent
Newburyport Art (NAA) is proud to present new work by award-winning Master Artist Sara Demrow Dent. The exhibition opens on Tuesday, April 25th and will run through Sunday, May 7th in the NAA’s Hills Gallery. Members of the public are invited to meet the artist at the Opening Reception Friday, April 28th from 5:00–8:00pm. The artist will also be present at the NAA for Newburyport’s citywide ArtWalk on Saturday, April 29 from 10:00–2:00pm.
Sara Demrow Dent has been painting for over 20 years and works out of her studio and home in the historic South End of Newburyport, MA. She received her BA from Syracuse University in Fine Arts and Film Making. She also completed a Master Degree in Modern Art and the Art Market at the prestigious Christie’s Education in New York. She has shown her work in New York, California, and Massachusetts and is included in collections internationally. Sara Demrow Dent describes her work as follows: “In my current series I continue to be inspired by shapes and hues in nature and find the juxtaposition of colors and textures in seascapes and flora poetic. I attempt to translate the wild aspects of nature into a more architectural line and am currently exploring the combination of the realistic within the abstract. I have always been intrigued by the marriage of words and paint and often include my own poetry and/or journal entries that inspire an individual or group of paintings. I ultimately hope my work creates an atmosphere of both contemplation and serenity.”
Sara has been a member of the NAA for 21 years and credits the organization for launching her art career. She has given back by serving for eight years on the Board of Directors including a term as President. During the pandemic and during periods of personnel changes, Sara stepped up as the Interim Executive Director of the NAA on three separate occasions to provide expertise to help guide the organization. Due to the impact Sara has had on the organization, in 2020 and 2021, the NAA gifted Sara an annual, two-week solo show in the Hills gallery, a lifetime membership as well as an annual $1,000 scholarship in her name for graduating seniors from Haverhill, Triton and Newburyport High Schools. Twenty percent of the NAA’s commission from her show sales go towards the scholarship. This upcoming exhibition marks her first awarded show and the NAA is proud to honor both her and her work!
The galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am–5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm–5:00pm. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays. The ground-floor Hills Gallery has an accessible entrance. More information, as well as an online gallery is available at newburyportart.org.
