Microplastics on New Hampshire Beaches: 3 Years of Research
Plastic pollution has reached crisis levels globally, impacting our waterways, oceans, beaches and making its way into food webs. Because of the severity of the issue, many research and education efforts are focusing on one of the most insidious forms of plastic pollution- microplastics- small plastic pieces 1-5mm in size.
For the past three years, New Hampshire Sea Grant and Blue Ocean Society have been studying microplastics on local beaches. How much plastic is really on our beaches? Are microplastics a big deal since they are so tiny? How are these plastics affecting New Hampshire beaches, beach goers and wildlife? Learn about the results of our three year study, future plans, and how you can help!
