Less than Enough: Poverty in Greater Newburyport

How do hard-working people, many of whom are long-time area residents, end up with inadequate housing, food, social supports, and prospects? Where do people get help? What can our community do to assist neighbors to recover from hard times? These are some of the questions that will be explored at the roundtable discussion, Less than Enough: Poverty in Greater Newburyport, on Wednesday, May 22, at 7 pm at Central Congregational Church.
In a continuation of its Invisible Neighbors Series, Pennies seeks to build a better understanding of poverty in greater Newburyport. The session, featuring social workers from The Pettengill House will explore the human stories behind local poverty and provide insight into the challenges faced by the 3,000 neighbors who seek help from The Pettengill House each year. The Pettengill House is the only multi-purpose, professional, wrap-around social service agency in the area providing comprehensive case management, advocacy and support services. Pettengill serves children, families, elders and single adults.
