Presenters: Greater Newburyport Village Board Members: Paul Harrington and Bill Franz
Are you aware that there is a National Village Movement of more than 250 Villages and one of those is our own Greater Newburyport Village? Are you curious about how you might be part of a network of neighborly support as you age?
If you have been to informational sessions in the past, come again and see what the Greater Newburyport Village is up to one year after its official launch. This interactive presentation will be a wonderful opportunity for you to become informed about a new approach to aging in America, what the Greater Newburyport Village can do for you and what we can do for each other.
The Village Movement in the United States began with one Village forming on Beacon Hill in Boston in 2002; now there are hundreds of Village worldwide that are either fully operational or in various stages of development. Villages are increasing in number and having a positive impact on the populations they serve.
This session will explore the Village movement in America, what is happening with our own local Village, what the Greater Newburyport Village aims to accomplish, its challenges and plans, and how the Village helps its members daily. Highlights from the 2016 National Survey of US Villages conducted by the University of California and the Mather LifeWays Institute of Aging will also be presented.
The Greater Newburyport Village is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 nonprofit membership organization whose mission is to promote living well and independently for a lifetime through community engagement and a network of neighborly support.
