Glass Perspectives: A Celebration of Glass & Glass Concepts

Newburyport, MA - Newburyport Art presents Glass Perspectives: A Celebration of Glass & Glass Concepts by over 60 artists from around the region with 3 international contributions. Studio glass art in many forms and techniques is represented in the galleries as well as work from artists of various media and disciplines to show multiple perspectives of glass. The resulting exhibition highlights the many functions that glass serves in society and the beauty that is inherent in the material properties and associations with glass.

Due to the many roles that glass plays, the United Nations declared 2022 the International Year of Glass. Continuing the NAA’s Celebration of Glass, which began in April of this year, Newburyport Art is hosting its largest themed exhibition this year to celebrate all forms of glass, the physical material and art glass, as well as associations, subjects, and ideas of glass in other media. Newburyport Art is proud to participate in this celebration, alongside galleries, museums, and studios across the globe.

Glass is (and has been) at the heart of many discipline, industry, and societal shifts throughout the past five thousand years due to its unique physical properties. It is, irrefutably, ever-present in society and daily lives through computer and phone screens, windows, lightbulbs, drinkware, spectacles, mirrors, and much more. Glass ideas are found throughout our language as well: "reflection", "transparency", "kaleidoscope", "spectacles", "refraction", and "optics". Everyone is familiar with glass and has access to glass. This ties in beautifully to Newburyport Art’s mission of accessibility.
