Gestures of Romance: Paintings by James Kubiatowicz
The Walsingham Gallery invites you to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the spirit of Downton Abbey. The glamor and romance of the post-Edwardian era have won the British drama millions of fans across the pond, but long before the series rocketed into popularity, artist James Kubiatowicz was painting his own scenes of dinner jackets and evening gowns.
Kubiatowicz’s paintings of the period often depict quiet exchanges of tenderness. A man buckles a woman’s shoe. A lady takes a gentleman’s arm. A waiter arrives with a birthday cake. These small, but significant, moments have a charming sense of serenity and elegance.
This special exhibition, opening February 8 with a reception from 5-7 p.m. will celebrate the little moments that define relationships. In the words of Francois Rabelais, “Gestures, in love, are incomparably more attractive, effective, and valuable than words.”
Come meet the artist, and toast to the age of romance. Exhibition to run through February 22.
