Encaustic Painting Demonstration by Jim Inzero
Jim Inzero returns to The Walsingham Gallery with beeswax, pigments, blow torch, and hot iron for his third encaustic painting demonstration, Saturday June 21, from 3 to 7 p.m., during ArtWalk weekend. If you’ve yet to witness the encaustic painting process, Jim Inzero’s demo is the perfect opportunity to learn about this fascinating medium.
Encaustic paints consist of wax, resin, and pigments. The paint is heated to a liquid state, and applied in the short window of time before it cools, although once solid, it can still be reheated and reworked at any time. Alongside the demo, Jim Inzero will debut a new series paintings built over maritime charts of Plum Island Sound, Ipswich Bay, Boston, and Cape Cod. Layering loose, textured brushstrokes of translucent wax over these precise, linear charts, he creates an evocative contrast between the two modes of description.
