Custom House Maritime Holiday Tree

The Custom House Maritime Museum announces its Second Annual Maritime Holiday Tree Event. Please join us in celebrating this event, as described by Susan Bernhard, Chair of the CHMM:
“To reflect Newburyport’s community spirit; replica boating life rings will be used as ornaments, tied together to reflect how we depend on each other in these times. The tree will be reminiscent of tall ship rigging, reflecting the heritage of our maritime port. “.
Businesses, students, families, and individuals are invited to celebrate the season by decorating the 30-foot rope-made tree with individually decorated life rings. Joan Whitlow, museum executive director, noted “It is our hope the 30-ft “tree”, lighting up the harbor-facing lawn this holiday season, will again serve as a beacon of hope for the new year.”
Local cultural nonprofits are participating to raise money for their organizations or to raise awareness of their role in the community. To see a list of non-profits please visit www.thechmm.org.
We are very thankful to the Newburyport Bank as our presenting sponsor this year; to Finneran & Nicholson, P.C., a local law office, who is generously sponsoring 400 local students to decorate rings and to sponsors Iron Tree and the Institution for Savings.
Please support the efforts of our museum and community by buying a ring at www.buyalifering.com . Join us Dec 3 @ 5:30 PM for the tree lighting, hot chocolate, and caroling lead by The Newburyport Choral Society beginning @ 4:45 PM.
