3rd Annual River Relay for Real Lives
Join the Arc of Greater Haverhill-Newburyport on Saturday, September 24th in empowering people with disabilities as we hold our 3rd annual River Relay for Real Lives.
The Arc Relay Teams begin in Haverhill and complete a 10 mile walk (or roll for those in wheelchairs), passing the baton each mile to next team, until all teams arrive at Cashman Park in Newburyport! When they reach Cashman Park at 3:30 p.m. (rain or shine) there will be a pre- assembled group of supporters, families, business’ and members of the community, that will walk together through the scenic rail trail to the Newburyport Elks Lodge on Low Street, doing what they call “Going The Extra Mile!”
There’s where the celebration begins! From 4 to 9 p.m. at the Elks there will be food, live music by Hoi Polloi, dancing, raffles, giveaways and cash bar. The $20.00 donation includes walking the extra mile and admission into the event. Event T-shirts are available for $10.
This event is a celebration of the Real Lives Law that passed 2 years ago. The Real Lives Law expands the ability of individuals with developmental disabilities to decide where and with whom they are able to live and work, by allowing them to control and have authority over their Department of Developmental Services’ service dollars.
All proceeds from this year's River Relay for Real Lives will benefit the Merrimack Valley Peer Support, self-advocate groups and Mass Advocates Standing Strong.
Major sponsors include the Institution for Savings, Anna Jaques Hospital, Blue Ocean Music Hall, Align Credit Union, and Haverhill Beef Co.
