VINTAGE RADIO REPAIR
Class Description
Maurice Martini
Maurice developed his passion for electronics at a very young age when he’d disassemble and destroy discarded radios and TVs. He eventually learned that some of those radios and TV’s could be easily repaired by swapping parts, re-soldering, or re-tuning. Maurice has a background in electrical engineering, electronics and computing Philco. Zenith. Stromberg Carlson. RCA Victor. If these names conjure up warm memories of your younger days, or if you are interested in radios of yesteryear, then this course might be for you! You may want to learn about how these radios tick; want to repair one; or you may have ideas of restoring one. You may also be drawn to the warm glow of vacuum tubes in these radios. This course is an introduction to the basics of how a radio works, what electronic components are used, what they do, steps to repair, and what likely can go wrong. This course limits its view to radios that were available in the mid-1930’s to mid-1940’s, although the principles apply to radios of all eras. An elementary understanding of electricity is recommended; however no mathematics will be involved.
There will be demonstrations but this is not a hands-on class.
