Get creative and join the fun at the Scarecrow Contest in Market Square! Open to individuals, families, teams, schools, and businesses, this event is your chance to showcase your inventive scarecrow. Check-in on Saturday, October 12th, and keep your creation on display for the whole weekend. Rules & Guidelines:
$50 entry fee
Check-In: All scarecrows must be checked in on Saturday, October 12th, from 8 AM to 10 AM at the Chamber’s Visitor Center located at 1 Waterfront Park. After checking in, the Chamber will direct you to your display location. Please do not hang your scarecrow before checking in.
Display Duration: Scarecrows must remain on display for the entire 2-day festival. Winners will be announced on Monday, October 14th, at 3:00 PM on the chambers social media.
Categories: Scarecrows will be judged in two categories: Children/Families and Businesses. Please indicate your category on the entry form. Judging will be conducted by representatives from the chamber, with Newburyport gift cards awarded to the winners.
Responsibility: The Chamber and/or its representatives are not responsible for scarecrows once they are placed. Scarecrow items and props will not be saved. If you wish to remove your scarecrow, please do so before Monday, October 21st.
Safety & Placement: For safety reasons, scarecrows cannot be placed on crosswalk lampposts. They must be designed to stand and attach to a lamppost, using traditional straw and/or cornhusk.
Design: We encourage sturdy construction, unique costumes, faces, names, and accessories. Please avoid electric, electronic, or moving parts. Scarecrows deemed inappropriate by the Chamber, including those that are partisan, political, or not suitable for all ages, will not be accepted.
