Dog(s) of the Year Contest
 
We are excited to launch the 2018 Newburyport Dog(s) of the Year Contest!
 
This year's contest begins with applications submitted by excited Pooch Parents. Applications are being accepted till 5pm on Thursday, November 2nd  (new extended date)

By participating in this contest you and your pooch are going to help fund the holiday decorations for Newburyport!  You can complete the application packet and drop it off or mail it to the Chamber of Commerce Office (38R Merrimac Street).

 
The voting fun begins on Friday, November 3rd at Noon (extented time). Each Pooch Parent prepares a bio for their pet as well as their favorite photo for the contest.

How does somebody vote?
  • There will be a large board outside of the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce office (inside when there is bad weather).  Each pooch will have a bucket with his/her name on it.
  • Participants, friends and families are invited to fill those buckets with coins and bills.
  • Every dollar that goes into those voting tubs is a vote for your beloved PET!
  • A portion of the proceeds from the competition will be donated to charity.
 
On Monday, November 20th we will count the total money and announce the winners! There will be a small dog category winner and a large dog category winner. The winning dogs (and their lucky owners) will be leading the Santa Parade!  The Annual Santa Parade and Tree Lighting will be held on Sunday, November 26th. We will be in contact with the winner to coordinate this fun event.
 
Entry Packet Should Include:
  • Application
  • 8x10 photo of your dog
  • Brief 50 - 100 word bio of your dog
  • Copy of Rabies Vaccination
  • Check/Credit Card for $100 made out to Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry
Timeline:

Entry deadline: Thursday, November 2 at 5pm
Voting begins: Friday, November 3 at Noon
Winners announced: Monday, November 20th.
Santa Parade and Tree Lighting on Sunday, November 26th!
 
The Fine Print:
  • Dog and owner(s) must be available on Sunday, November 26th for the parade.
  • Dog should be comfortable in crowded places (parade is very busy!)
  • Dog does not have to be a resident of Newburyport
  • May be any breed dog (small category is <35 lbs/large category is 36 lbs+)
  • Dog must be spayed or neutered unless involved with responsible dog showing or breeding
  • Owner must provide an 8x10 photo of the dog and brief bio about the dog.
  • No more than two dogs may be shown in the photo for a single entry
  • Photo permissions must be given to Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce for reuse
