Tour: First Religious Society Church Tour
Experience this classic New England church with its box pews, commanding pulpit and many delicate windows. Considered by architectural historians to be an outstanding example of the Federal style of American architecture, the 1801 meeting house is regarded today as a remarkable survivor, since so many other churches from the period have been torn down or substantially altered. The church steeple, called by architect Ralph Adams Cram "the most beautiful wooden spire in New England," is currently undergoing restoration.
