Rescheduled from January 31 to February 7
Opening remarks by Mayor Donna Holaday at 11 a.m. will be followed by the national anthem sung by Councilor Meghan Kinsey. A children’s sled parade will kick off the event around 11:30 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to join in the fun with decorated sleds. Costumes are encouraged but not required for a parade around the pond.
Metzy’s Taqueria Food Truck will make its debut at the park, serving up fresh Mexican specialties. The food truck plans additional visits to the park to serve sliders and skaters occasionally throughout the winter.
The Winter Carnival Sled Race offers a cash prize of $100 to the winning team. Teams of up to five members race around the frozen pond with one member riding the sled, the others pulling. And of course event sponsors, the Institution for Savings and the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank, will make sure free hot cocoa and cookies are on hand again this year.
The event promises open skating throughout the day with sledding and snowboarding, horse drawn hayrides, and the legendary sounds of WNBP completing a classic winter theme. Bring a little cash for lunch at Metzy's food truck and Orange Leaf and to take part in the 50/50 raffle.
