Newburyport, MA –April 5, 2017: Join us at the Museum of Old Newbury on Thursday, April 13 for a fascinating trip through time with local artist Richard Burke Jones. With extensive research and meticulous attention to detail, Jones brings the past to life in his paintings of historic scenes. The evening will begin with a 6:30 reception followed by the artist’s talk at 7:00. Both will take place at the Museum of Old Newbury, located at 98 High Street.
Jones’s portfolio includes several late 19th century scenes of Newburyport, as well as views of Nantucket and Boston. Typically done from a birds-eye view, the works are grand in scale and immerse the viewer in the past. Close observation reveals charming details—the reflection of gas lamps on wet city streets, a joyful wedding scene, and children jumping rope. At the April 13 program, Jones will highlight the process behind each work, from inception to research to painting to unveiling.
Richard Burke Jones, a Newburyport native, is a realist painter who concentrates on historical scenes, portraits, interiors, and landscapes in oil and watercolor. He is a retired member of the Guild of Boston Artists and served on the Governing Board from 1994-1997. A true renaissance man, Jones holds degrees in art, law, and education, and is currently studying for a Masters in Information Technology.
