Tom Holloways "And No More Shall We Part" had its U.S. premiere at Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2016. What this superb play offers is a succession of intensely human moments that add up to one of the most realistic dramas to date about the end of life.
After a long and successful marriage, Pam and Don are still very much in love. But Pam is ill and has to make a heartbreaking decision that will transform both their lives, and Don struggles to keep up and to not lose touch. The play stands on emotional realism, not graphic scenes of physical suffering or medical procedures. Such scenes are exactly what 56-year-old Pam, portrayed by Pam Battin-Sacks, is determined to avoid once it becomes clear that her illness is terminal. So she decides to take control of her situation by methodically preparing for the most radical possible step a step that is fiercely opposed by her longtime husband, 61-year-old Don, who cannot bear to let her go (played by real life husband, Steve Sacks).
Directed by Alan Huisman, this intimate play allows us in as Pam and Don attempt the impossible to begin to say goodbye to each other after a lifetime together.
