Joppa Dance Company and the Firehouse Center for the Arts present a Dance-Theater production of a holiday favorite, Charles Dickens', A Christmas Carol. The production interweaves the traditional scrip text while incorporating original choreography to tell the tale of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge and the three spirits who visit him on Christmas Eve, thus inspiring his transformation.
Joppa Dance Company groups: Joppa Junior, grades 4-6; Joppa 2, grades 7-8; Joppa T2/Teen, grades 9-12, carry the narrative with dances in each scene, and they play supporting roles in the production as well. Joining the cast are Damon Jespersen as Jacob Marley, Edward Speck and Cailin McFarland as Scrooge's nephew and niece, Kevin Thomas and Yori Thomas as the Cratchets, Karen Lundt as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Jenn Grinnings and Lester Grinnings as the Fezzywigs, Cole Steeves as young Scrooge, and reprieving his role as Scrooge, Peter Berkrot. Most of the cast members reside in Newburyport except Jesperson who is from By?eld, Steeves from Georgetown and Lundt and Berkrot from Gloucester.
Choreography is by Joppa directors, Fontaine Dubus, Jen Steeves, Cheryl Fisher and Pam Smith.
Dance styles range from ballet to modern/contemporary to traditional jigs with music by Craig Duncan, Philip Glass, Hans Zimmer and more. Intricate costumes and lighting effects will intensify the mood of this unique production for the whole family.
