Newburyport, MA - Newburyport Art (NAA) presents a robust lineup of artistic happenings in the month of June! On view beginning on June 6th is Artist Spotlight Jessica Murr in the Mural Gallery, and the National Juried Show, juried by Ben Sloat, on view in the Sargent, Hills, and Hartson Galleries.

The National Juried Show is juried by Ben Sloat, artist and program director of the MFA program at Clark University, located in Worcester, MA. Sloat has earned degrees from UC Berkeley and SMFA/Tufts. His art  “often uses elements of the vernacular; generating hybrid social meanings and reflecting the artist’s multiracial Taiwanese-American background.” His work has been shown nationally and internationally.  An opening reception for the National Juried Show will be held on Friday, June 6th from 5:00-7:00 PM. The show will be on view from June 6th to July 5th. On view in the Mural Gallery will be Artist Spotlight Jessica Murr, a painter and printmaker. Her work will be on view from June 6th to June 20th.

Newburyport Art’s first fundraising event of the year, Coombs & Blooms will be held on Saturday, June 7th from 6:00-8:00 PM. This fundraising event helps to support Newburyport Art’s programming, capital building improvements, and community outreach. The evening will include food and cocktails, a talk about 20th century Newburyport artist Laura Coombs Hills by Museum of Old Newbury Executive Director Bethany Groff Dorau, and an opportunity to create your own flower arrangement to take home. Additionally, local florists will create flower bouquets inspired by artwork from our National Juried Show – which will be part of a giveaway!

The month of June is filled with classes and workshops including Abstract Alchemy, Nature Sketchbook, Explorations in Mixed Media, Hand-build a Birdhouse in one day, Printmaking with a Pasta Maker, and Plein Air Painting: Oil or Acrylic. About Mighty Mystic
Mighty Mystic is considered as one of the leaders in the U.S. Reggae scene and labeled by many as one of the more prolific artists to develop outside of Jamaica. He has gripped the scene with ferocious conviction and an uncanny ambition worthy to be mentioned among the greats. He has gone from being a fan of reggae music to being a contributor to the art. Mighty Mystic came on the scene in 2006 after scoring his first international hit with the song “Riding on the Clouds.” However, it wasn’t until the release of his first album “Wake up the World” (2010) that he became a household name. “Wake up the World” boasted several standouts, such as “Revolution,” “Riding on the Clouds,” “Original Love,” and “Slipped Away” with appearances from reggae icon Shaggy and roots rocker Lutan Fyah. Mystic continues to wake up the world with his high energy, message driven brand of reggae music which he emphatically calls “HARD ROOTS.” It is this unique spin on classic reggae blended with Hip Hop & Rock that has catapulted him to the forefront of today’s Reggae Revival. Mighty Mystic is also the younger brother of current Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness. When asked, does being the brother of Prime Minister Holness have any impact on your music? Mystic simply says “Andrew has a job to do and so do I, impact or not we both have our own mission to complete”.

About the Band
Scott Brown and the Diplomats is an offshoot of a band formed in New Zealand and recently headed by former US Senator and former US Ambassador Scott Brown. The last event by the band was in Wellington, New Zealand in front of 15,000 fans at Beervanna at Sky Stadium. Playing together for almost 4 years, the band compiled an impressive list of venues and paid appearances. Upon returning from duty in New Zealand, Brown sought out some of the most talented area musicians to reform the band into Scott Brown and the Diplomats.

About Performers on the Go
Performers on the Go is a team of professionals who offer a broad scope of artist development, branding and content generation services. They are committed to having artists be on the go and see their “music on the rise.” Artists in all career levels participate from those with first time releases to those working on EPs and albums. The management also has casted for American Idol for several seasons, and has provided artists for other music projects for songwriters and music entities.? An affiliated organization, Young Performers Club, managed a long-term competitive showcase series at the Boston Hard Rock Cafe for all age groups over a 12-year history. The last event was on May 15, 2022.

Newburyport Art (NAA) announces its next exhibition, 10 x 10 Small Works, on view Friday, July 11th through Wednesday, July 23rd. This show features over 80 art pieces that are all 10” x 10” in size. The artworks may be small, yet are big on creativity using various mediums, all featured in the first floor Sargent Gallery.

This exhibition coincides with Newburyport Art’s Watercolor Featured Interest Group Show, on view in the first floor Hills Gallery. The Watercolor Featured Interest Group Show  will share an opening reception with Small Works on Saturday, July 12th, from 4-6pm. The public is welcome to attend, meet some of the exhibiting artists, and enjoy light refreshments. 

Founded in 1948, Newburyport Art is dedicated to promoting and exhibiting members’ work and to providing art education and access to the visual arts for the entire community.

The galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am–5:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm–5:00pm. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays. About The Record Company 

When The Record Company pick up their instruments, the members—Chris Vos [guitar, lead vocals, harmonica], Alex Stiff [bass, backing vocals], and Marc Cazorla [drums, backing vocals]—participate in a musical back-and-forth akin to a formative and supportive conversation among siblings. The nuances of their personalities seep through loose, bluesy guitar leads, airtight drum grooves, thick bass, and vividly evocative lyrics. With such fluidity, the musicians respond to one another so instinctually you’d swear they were telepathically linked. However, there’s no such superpower necessary when you’ve got the closest thing to a brotherhood that three musicians unrelated by blood can share…

The GRAMMY® Award-nominated trio only amplify the power of this bond on their fourth full-length offering and 2023 debut for Round Hill Records.

“We know each other’s personalities on the instruments, so we reconnected with one another and really found that brotherhood again,” explains Chris. “It’s      always been there, but we got back into a room where it was like a circle of stone. We’re creating something that will go out into the world. We all stand behind it equally, and we’re willing to put our lives and love into it. When you put your career, your future, and your art into another person’s hands and you know they’re doing the same for you, there’s a different level of trust. That’s been our secret since day one. When it’s challenging, we’re all trying to figure out the challenge. When it’s good, we’re all experiencing it together.”

They’ve experienced everything as a family since forming back in 2011. Along the way, they served up a tested-and-proven      epic in the form of their 2016 debut, Give It Back To You. The release      earned a GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Contemporary Blues Album” and spawned “Off The Ground,” which reached #1 at AAA Radio and tallied nearly 40 million total streams and counting. Beyond a string of stunning late-night television appearances, they performed on CBS This Morning, at Bonnaroo, and on an extensive tour with John Mayer in addition to headlining coast-to-coast. They      maintained this momentum with All Of This Life [2018] and Play Loud [2021]. On top of       praise from American Songwriter, Classic Rock, and more, NPR hailed the latter as “the band’s biggest and most dynamic record to date.”

 In 2021, the guys hunkered down and commenced creating what would become their fourth LP. Working out of an intimate home studio in Beachwood Canyon, they wrote, recorded, and self-produced the music. Outside of cutting drums at the legendary Sunset Sound, it proved to be a homegrown affair through and through.

 “We got back to our old perspective, which is to trust the idea, get out of the way, make something, listen, and respond to it,” affirms Chris.

Alex elaborates, “We decided to record the organic thing that got us really excited to play music as a band in the first place. That was the general theme of this record. Keep it as close to a three-piece sound as possible. Keep the music raw. It’s a return to form in a way, but we’re still growing.”

 “We’ve been doing this for a while     ,” adds Marc. “As long as we sound like us, we can be proud of it. It’s not going to be for everybody, but we’ve never been prouder of what we’re doing.”

The Record Company kicks off their next era with the single “Dance On Mondays.” Guitar cries through a hypnotically hummable bassline and head-nodding beat. Meanwhile, a chantable hook instantly takes hold with grit and gusto as Chris affirms     , “I don’t dance on Mondays.”

 “Somebody asked me to go see a band on a Monday night, and I just said, ‘I don’t dance on Mondays’,” Alex recalls. “I wrote it down in my phone. The phrase signifies, ‘I’m taking my life back, and I’m not going to dance for anybody’. It goes back to where we are as a band and us being The Record Company.”

Then, there’s “Talk To Me.” Bass practically dances atop a simmering groove punctuated by tambourine before guitar kicks back in as Chris urges, “So, why don’t you talk to me?” Marc goes on, “It reminds me of one of those rare Blue Note groove records with a chill vibe.”

 Launching into toe-tapping bounce, harmonica wails on “Darkest Days” as the stomp and 12-string guitar underline a soulful vocal. “Highway Lady” shines with a Laurel Canyon meditation      in the glow of swooning slide guitar.

“We wanted to make music you could listen to “Highway Lady” on a road trip in the car with the city’s lights behind you,” Alex says. “This song     had this big vibe of feeling good both musically and spiritually.”

“Lyrically, it’s my favorite,” adds Marc. “It could be about so many different things. I moved into this house with a little pool, which I’d always wanted in Southern California. When it’s hot as shit out, you naturally develop all of these new friends during the summer. You make a pool playlist, and I wanted one of our tunes to be a contender. To me, this is one.”

In the end, The Record Company  are stronger than ever as a band and, more importantly, as brothers.

“I’d love for people to hear this record and feel like they’re in the house with us making it,” Alex leaves off. “I want them to feel like they’re part of this unpolished and homemade thing, because that’s what we were trying to get back to.”

“We’re a trio, and that’s the completion of this circle,” Marc concludes. “The fourth member of this group is the space between us. We embrace that space as part of the raw element. That’s what we explored on this album, and it’s beautiful. We can’t wait to bring it on the road.”

About the Band

Boston’s Best Not Broken has built a reputation for high energy shows and catchy, power pop/rock original songs. Drawing from Brit Pop, Alternative Rock, New Wave, and their own unique brand of singer-songwriter sensibility, the band crafts soundscapes that appeal to fans of artists ranging from The Killers to Ed Sheeran. Their thoughtful and, at times amusing, lyrics match the upbeat nature of the instrumentation, creating a fresh musical odyssey that is infectiously fun. Their live performances showcase the band’s contagious energy and often evolve into interactive dance parties where the onstage antics compel fans to rock out and let loose.

A New England Music Awards winner and two-time Hollywood Music in Media Award nominee, Best Not Broken has earned radio airplay with “Tell Me That You Want Me”, “I Won’t Stop Loving You”, and “Faster” as well as the recently released “Kids”, which has garnered over 100,000 video views in only a few weeks. Best Not Broken has opened for legendary rockers like Pat Benatar, Little River Band, Gin Blossoms, The Babys, Southside Johnny, Vertical Horizon, and Jefferson Starship as well as contemporary chart-topping artists like Twenty One Pilots, Dave Matthews Band, Train, Goo Goo Dolls, Walk The Moon, 30 Seconds To Mars, Jason Derulo and Matt Nathanson. Best Not Broken is Eric Jackson (vocals, guitar), Mark Oswald (bass, vocals), Carlo Carluccio (drums, percussion), and Anand Shah (guitar). Audiences can close their eyes and imagine John, Paul, George and Ringo playing some of the greatest and most influential songs ever written. Beatlejuice performs songs from the full span of the Beatles career, from “Love Me Do” to “Let It Be.” The band was formed in 1994 by the late Brad Delp, renowned vocalist for the band Boston, and drummer John Muzzy from the band Farrenheit. The two friends saw Bob Squires’ Beatles cover band Merseyside play in Newburyport and decided to start their own. Their first official gig was at Bleachers in Salem on a Wednesday night, which Delp and Muzzy advertised with posters that simply said, “ALL BEATLES ALL NIGHT.” The legendary Johnny D’s restaurant and music club in Somerville’s Davis Square served as a home base for the band, which played both nights of every eighth weekend there. Their performances became so popular that the club had to create a special reservation system that would open on Saturday mornings two weeks before the show. After Delp’s passing in 2007, band members Muzzy, Steve Baker, Joe Holaday, Dave Mitchell, Evan Gianoulis and Rich Bartlett continued to perform under the name Beatlejuice and Friends, beginning with memorial concerts for Delp at the Regent Theatre in Arlington. Those friends were a group of vocalists including Mike Girard of The Fools, Jimmy Rogers of Velvet Elvis, Buddy Bernard of Aces & Eights, and Bob Jennings.

Newburyport Art (NAA) announces its next exhibition, 10 x 10 Small Works, on view Friday, July 11th through Wednesday, July 23rd. This show features over 80 art pieces that are all 10” x 10” in size. The artworks may be small, yet are big on creativity using various mediums, all featured in the first floor Sargent Gallery.

This exhibition coincides with Newburyport Art’s Watercolor Featured Interest Group Show, on view in the first floor Hills Gallery. The Watercolor Featured Interest Group Show  will share an opening reception with Small Works on Saturday, July 12th, from 4-6pm. The public is welcome to attend, meet some of the exhibiting artists, and enjoy light refreshments.

Fire up the grills, crank the tunes, pour the margaritas, and decorate the car.  Start your evening at the tailgate party (separate ticket) in the adjacent parking lot then move inside for the show. Changes In Latitudes is the country's premier tribute to the Mayor of Margaritaville, Jimmy Buffett.  This nationally acclaimed band travels the country with beach balls and leis flying, dancing conga lines, and "Trop Rock" fun for all. It's the ultimate beach party with amazingly authentic reproduction of the Jimmy Buffett concert experience.

Steve Kareta mimics Jimmy's casual, storyteller style, while these world-class musicians, travelling with a full tropical stage set-up, will take you on a musical cruise through the sun-drenched waters of the Caribbean. You can expect to hear such classics as “Margaritaville”, “Come Monday”, "Cheeseburger In Paradise", "Volcano", and, of course, “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, as well as other crowd-pleasing favorites, like “Brown Eyed Girl”, “Southern Cross”, “Another Saturday Night”, and the Alan Jackson / Jimmy Buffett hit "It's Five O'clock Somewhere".

All Summer Long is a band focused on the music of the Beach Boys and not necessarily the look. These 7 professional musicians from New England fell in love with their music from childhood and perform their music with the authenticity of the original recordings. After all, it’s about the music right!  That’s why All Summer Long is recognized for representing the Beach Boys’ music as close to the original recordings as possible and they put on a heck of a show the whole family can enjoy.

About The Merrimack Valley Concert Band

The Merrimack Valley Concert Band incorporated as it’s own non-profit corporation in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in April 2004 and has been marching in parades and presenting concerts throughout the North Shore and seacoast New Hampshire regions since. The Band repertoire is a broad mix of popular, jazz, swing, patriotic and Broadway tunes taken from the ‘Great American Songbook.’ Instrumentation includes wind instruments, drums, glockenspiel – even a string bass. Members, who range in age from 12 to 90, represent many levels of musical ability and experience!
