DESCRIPTION:Plum Island Outdoors will conduct the first 2020 walking tour of Plum Island\, North Point\, led by Bill Sargent on Sunday\, February 2\, 2020\, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The 60-minute walking tours\, from Newburyport Plum Island Beach to the south jetty and back\, rain or shine. Free Parking for the walk is at the Newburyport Plum Island Beach Parking Lot. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nGiven their length and a significant amount of walking\, the tours may not be appropriate for young children or people with disabilities. Plum Island Outdoors\, Inc. is not liable for any accidents. We\, of course\, cannot predict the weather! We will inform people of any cancellations via this Website and on our Facebook page. Please register\, for the Walk/Talk so we can determine potential attendees and update people directly of any changes. Tour participants will gather at the restrooms (closed) at the Newburyport Beach Parking Lot.\n\n\n\nWe may alter the route of the walk or carpool participants up to 69th Street for the actual start.\n\nThe Walk is $10.00.\n\n\nPlum Island Outdoors\, Inc. is an IRS Certified Nonprofit\, the EIN is 81-3813447.\n\nView the dynamic state of the erosion on Plum Island at North Point. Mother Nature is in charge\, especially on a barrier island!\n\nInvestigate the Coast Guard archeology site and speculate on whether some of the artifacts could have been used to set U-boat nets across the Merrimack River. Visit the Sand Machine where up to an acre of sand flow through natural weirs in the South Jetty during high course tides. Discuss how the Army Corps of Engineers\, the city of Newburyport\, universities\, and colleges have all been working together to work with nature and find a solution to the rapid erosion on the point.
