SUMMARY:Transition Boot Camp
DESCRIPTION:Kerry Mahoney from the Arc of Massachusetts\, will discuss the transition from school to adulthood is a critical - and often challenging - time for students with disabilities. The transition your son or daughter will make from school to adult life in the community is a long journey beginning at age 14 through 22 years. Transition services include post-secondary education\, vocational education\, integrated and supported employment\, adult services\, independent living and community participation.  Learn about the critical timelines in the process and how to help prepare students for a seamless transition into adulthood.\n\n \n\nWorking with local Arcs for over 30 years\, Kerry Mahoney has developed and managed a variety of supports\, services and resources for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. She is currently the Director of Education and Outreach and SUPPORTbrokers of The Arc of Massachusetts.  A graduate of Emmanuel College\, she received her degree in Psychology/Rehabilitation Counseling.  As a director of two major family support centers\, Kerry managed contracts with state agencies\, supervised staff and expanded services through the provision of Personal Care Assistance and Adult Family Care programs. From these experiences\, Kerry has developed a broad knowledge base of the state\, federal and private resources that support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. \n\n \n\nThe Arc of Massachusetts' mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. They accomplish this through advocacy of supports and services based in the community.
