DESCRIPTION:Three of the grandest houses on High Street were built by one family\, the Wheelwrights of Newburyport.  Their history is inextricably linked with the history of Newburyport\, yet we often only hear about William Wheelwright\, the Newburyport born Chilean industrialist who died in London\, but is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.\n\n\n\nCome on a journey exploring this Boston Brahman Clan - starting with the Reverend John Wheelwright (buried in Salisbury). We'll focus on family history from the point of view of Abraham Wheelwright: revolutionary war soldier\, privateer\, merchant\, captain.  When he died in 1850 he was the oldest living person in Newburyport.  We'll explore the Wheelwright family history from the first wave of Boston Puritan settlers that moved on to Newburyport and then follow Abraham's descendants into the 21st century\; poets\, artists\, architects\, and scientists.\n\n\n\nJoin us to get some insight into the forgotten merchant class of the young republic\, and collaborate on tips about exploring the history of your house and your ancestors using the Newburyport Archival Center\, local resources\, and the Internet.
