SUMMARY:The Vagina Monologues at Blue Ocean Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center\n\nThursday\, February 8 | 8PM\n\nDoors Open at 6:30PM\n\nReserved Seating: $35\n\n+ $3 Additional Day of Show\n\nAbout the Show\n\nFor its 20th year\, the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center presents The Vagina Monologues\, featuring some of the candid\, funny\, painful\, yearning insights of women talking about their no-longer-so-private part.\n\nA groundbreaking play written by playwright and activist Eve Ensler in 1994\, The Vagina Monologues is based on dozens of interviews with women\, and addresses women's sexuality\, and the social stigma surrounding rape and abuse\, creating new conversations about and with women. The Vagina Monologues ran off-Broadway for years in New York and then toured the United States. After every performance\, Ensler found women waiting to share their own stories of survival\, leading her to see that The Vagina Monologues could be a more than moving work of art on violence\; she divined that the performances could be a mechanism for moving forward to act to end violence.\n\nOn Valentines Day\, 1998\, Eve\, with a group of women in New York City\, established V-Day. Set up as a 501(c)(3). V-Day's mission is simple. It demands that violence against women and girls must end. To do this\, once a year\, in February\, Eve allows groups around the world to produce a performance of the play\, as well as other works created by V-Day\, and use the proceeds for local individual projects and programs that work to end violence against women and girls\, often shelters and rape crisis centers. What began as one event in New York City in 1998 today includes over 5\,800 V-Day events annually. The end result is a daring and refreshingly liberating experience filled with compassion\, humor\, intelligence and honesty.
