SUMMARY:The Passion and Pain of Tennessee Williams
DESCRIPTION:Directed by: Charles Van Eman\n\nWith The Glass Menagerie\, A Street Car Named Desire\, and Cat On a Hot Tin Roof Tennessee Williams forged his reputation as one of the great American playwrights of the 20th century.\n\n\n\nTo culminate the 8-week fall sessions of the popular Firehouse Senior Readers' Theater program\, students perform scenes from eleven of Williams' memorable plays: A Streetcar Named Desire\, Night of the Iguana\, Sweet Bird of Youth\, Something Unspoken\, Suddenly Last Summer\, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof\, The Glass Menagerie\, The Two Character Play\, Orpheus Descending\, Summer and Smoke\, A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur.\n\n\n\nSenior Readers' Theater is performed seated and not memorized. The actors use vocal expression\, minimal props and sound cues to help the audience understand the story.\n\n\n\nWHAT IS SRT?\n\nThe Firehouse's arts education program Senior Reader's Theater is show biz without the stress! Individuals perform while comfortably seated and there is no memorization required. We welcome individuals aged 55 and older\, regardless of experience\, to participate in the magic of theater. Together\, we explore a script in detail\, develop a character\, focus on the use of voice and gestures\, and finally perform for the community! In addition to performing at the Firehouse\, this group "takes the show on the road" and performs for Senior Centers and Assisted Living Centers throughout the area.
