SUMMARY:Sol y Canto
DESCRIPTION:Sol y Canto is the nationally-touring and Boston-Music-Award-winning Pan-Latin ensemble led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and bongo player Rosi Amador and New Mexican guitarist and composer Brian Amador. Featuring Rosi's crystalline voice\, Brian's lush Spanish guitar\, and virtuoso musicians from Uruguay\, Per\, Panam and Argentina on piano\, winds\, bass\, and percussion\, the sextet has established a reputation for their quirky original compositions that address matters of the heart\, social and global aspiration\, and for their unique and driving interpretations of contemporary Latin music. Brian Amador's newest musical program is about a favorite topic - Latin food! Performed by Soly Canto and string quartet Cuarteto Latinoamerican\, Sabor y Memoria (Flavor and Memory) touches on issues of memory and nostalgia for one's home country as well as immigration\, agricultural sustainability\, and hunger relief. From the appetizer through dessert\, the suite will combine and contrast Latin musical genres old and new in much the same way that flavors are blended in the cuisine of a new land. Rhythms hail from Puerto Rico\, Cuba\, Mexico\, Argentina and Venezuela. The singers\, the Latin rhythm section\, and the orchestra dialog to celebrate the diversity of Latin cultures and the ways they affect each other and the dominant culture in the process of assimilating to a new life inthe U.S.Everyone will want a taste! Sol-y-Canto-Logo "Sublime ambassadors of pan-Latin tradition. . .Sol y Canto is destined for international renown Rosi has a voice like clean spring water: it's smooth\, it's clear and\, somehow\, you come to believe that it's necessary for life." -The Boston Globe "I am convinced that everyone has a part of their soul that responds to Latin music whether or not they are aware of it. Sol y Canto reaches that part of the soul and fulfills it to the max. Regardless of nationality\, everyone is Latin when Sol y Canto performs\, if not at the start of the concert\, definitely by the end."- Randy Mayes\, fan & performing arts director. This event is presented by the Firehouse. $21 Members/Students/Seniors $24 Adults
