SUMMARY:Preservation Week Reception and Open House
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, May 17\, at 6:00pm\, the Museum of Old Newbury and the Newburyport Preservation Trust will host a reception at the Perkins Printing and Engraving Plant on Fruit Street. This building was the site of New England currency production in the early 1800's. Please follow the signs and enter the Perkins Building from the Cushing Courtyard on Fruit Street.\n\n\n\nThe evening will include light refreshments\, music\, and a chance to explore the restored Perkins building and learn about the work of the Historic American Buildings Survey in Newburyport and at the Cushing House. This 1930's initiative documented historic buildings and landscapes across the country\, employing architects\, draftsmen\, photographers\, and landscape architects to produce detailed drawings and plans of thousands of historic properties\, including dozens in Newburyport.\n\n\n\nThe Cushing House\, built in 1808 and home to the Cushing family for three generations\, is Newburyport's only National Historic Landmark. The building and its grounds were thoroughly documented as part of the HABS program in 1936. At the May 17 reception\, plans and photographs produced by HABS will be on display.\nRSVP to 978-462-2681 or info@newburyhistory.org\n\nThis event is free and open to the public.\n\n\n\nPlease follow the signs and enter the Perkins Building from the Cushing Courtyard on Fruit Street.\n\nThis event is part of Preservation Week\; for information about other Preservation Week events\, visit\n\nhttp://www.nbptpreservationtrust.org/preservationweek.
