DESCRIPTION:The first fall session of a free discussion series on poverty in the Greater Newburyport area will take place on Wednesday evening\, October 1. Deb Smith\, who leads Pettengill House will speak about poverty in the local school systems.  \n\n \n\nThe session takes place from 7-8 pm in the basement classroom of the First Religious Society Church on 26 Pleasant Street in Newburyport.\n\n \n\nThe Local Poverty Matters Study Group is sponsored by the Social Action Committee of the First Religious Society and Pennies for Poverty\, a non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce poverty and alleviate its devastating impact on individuals and families in Greater Newburyport.\n\nBackground.\n\n\n\nThe Local Poverty Matters Study Group explores different aspects of poverty in Greater Newburyport in its meetings on the first Wednesday evening of the month. From October through May\, professionals from anti-poverty agencies share their information and insight. Discussion following the presentation is often lively as attendees seek to gain insight into actions they can take to help those in need.
