SUMMARY:Poverty and the Prison System
DESCRIPTION:Richard Kelley\, Chief Probation Officer for the Newburyport/Ipswich District Court\, will discuss poverty and the prison system at the November 2 Local Poverty Matters session. Richard has been a probation officer for 35 years. During that time the job has changed as communities cope with drug addiction\, domestic violence\, and the absolute poverty of released prisoners. Specialty courts for the homeless\, veterans\, and drug abusers have also come into use. Hear from an intelligent\, compassionate court officer who deals every day with these new challenges as well as new technologies. This promises to be a fascinating Local Poverty Matters session.
