SUMMARY:Newburyport Art presents February Exhibitions & Events
DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) presents a year of Connection & Collaboration\, opening this season with a month of events celebrating artists & writers.\n\nOn view in the Sargent and Hartson galleries is Line Work. Lines connect\, divide\, guide\, redact\, map\, express and reveal. They form the contours of a drawing and the rhythm of a sentence. For this collaborative exhibition\, over 60 visual artists and creative writers explore the many possibilities of a line.\n\nThe second featured exhibition is In House: The Newburyport Art Staff Show in the first floor Hills Gallery. This exhibit showcases the talent of the Newburyport Art staff\, with over 40 artworks of photography\, paintings\, drawings\, and multimedia by AJ Simmons\, Kelly K. Page\, Claudia Mathews\, Belle Carver Struck\, and Grace Sullivan.\n\nA reception for both shows is Saturday\, February 7th\, from 4-6pm and will include NAA's Poet in Residence\, John Burciaga in collaboration with Deb Szabo\, and creative writing students from Newburyport High School. They will perform and present poems inspired by artwork from the Line Work exhibit. \n\nAn event reflecting the interaction between artists and writers\, will be The Murphy Brothers Art Talk\, Sunday\, February 15th from 2-4pm. There will be a hands-on presentation in regards to this connection\, with Line Work artists Brian and Bob Murphy. The Murphy Bros. have collaborated on theatre posters (and merch!) for over 15 years\, and are excited to share their creative process. Lastly\, Art & Inspiration: Author & Artist in Conversation will be held on Saturday\, February 21st from 4-5pm. Join author Jane Ward and painter Christine Molitor Johnson as they discuss ideas\, inspiration and influences. \n\nNew Hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00am 5:00pm. The gallery is handicap accessible. More information\, as well as an online gallery is available at newburyportart.org.\n\n\nFounded in 1948\, Newburyport Art is dedicated to promoting and exhibiting members' work and to providing art education and access to the visual arts for the entire community. The gallery and events are free and open to the public. All artwork is for sale.
