Presented by Belleville Roots Music Series.\n\n\n\nSmithsonian Folkways recording artists\, Max Baca and Los Texmaniacs are the new worldwide ambassadors of Texas Roots/ Tex-Mex  music. \n\n\n\nMax carries the tradition learned as a thirteen year member of the original kings of Tex-Mex\, Doug Sahm's Texas Tornados\, and as right hand man to Tex-Mex  accordion legend (2012 NEA National Heritage / five time Grammy winner)\, Flaco Jimenez. \n\n\n\nBuilding on this foundation\, Max formed Los Texmaniacs combining traditional roots music with contemporary vitality and musicianship. \n\n\n\nMax is the premier first call Bajo Sexto (a traditional twelve-string guitar like instrument) player in the world. He has appeared on elevenGrammy winning projects with artists as diverse as\, The Rolling Stones\, Ricky Skaggs\, Los Super Seven\, Lila Downs\, and Texas Tornados. \n\n\n\nLos Texmaniacs current release "AMERICANO GROOVE" was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos. The release is a progressive TexMex album  featuring collaborations with  Alejandro Escovedo \, Joe Ely\, as well as country artists Kevin Fowler & Rick Trevino. Los TexManiacs previous albums - "Texas Towns & Tex- Mex Sounds" (Latin Grammy nominated) and the Grammy winning "Borders Y Bailes"   (both on Smithsonian Folkways) combine a mix of traditional polka\, waltz\, bolero\, redova\, danzon\, & Schottische\, with western swing and conjunto. You will hear elements of rock 'n roll\, blues\, and jazz riffs keeping the music fresh and exciting\, helping attract new audiences. \n\n\n\nLos Texmaniacs highly energetic live performances are equally contagious\, and diverse. Examples of past performances include   The Kennedy Center\, The Library of Congress \, New Orleans Jazz Festival \, Smithsonian Folk Festival \, Vancouver Island Music Fest \, Hong Kong World Music Fest \, California Strawberry Festival \, Rhythm & Roots Rhode Island\, Minnesota State Fair and National Council for Traditional Arts " Don't Fence Me In Tour". Los TexManiacs have performed on Austin City Limits\, NPR \, A Prairie Home Companion \, and American Routes . The band is representing Texas Roots music Worldwide & have shared their TexMex flavor & culture with Russia\, China\, Italy \, Switzerland\, Canada \, Costa Rica \, Hawaii \, and Argentina.
