SUMMARY:Free Legal Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Regardless of race\, gender\, or sexual orientation\, very little feels "certain"\, or "safe" anymore. The LGBTQ community has achieved hard fought gains in recent years in the fight for equality. Tragically\, they are one of many groups who now find themselves the target of hate and discrimination by politicians and policy makers who are increasingly obtaining positions of real (and terrifying) authority in Washington. \n\n \n\nRather than be swallowed up by these feelings\, what can be done? We can take action as a community in whatever ways that we can\, no matter how large or small. We ask that you help us spread the word: on Saturday\, December 10th\, Attorneys Margot G. Birke and Candice M. O'Neil of Elder Law Solutions\, are offering a day of free legal services for the LGTBQ community\, where we will put together a simple estate plan for each individual or couple in attendance. We will address the areas of major\, immediate concern\, including appointing someone who can act on your behalf in times of medical or financial crisis\, making sure that your spouse is taken care of even if marital protections are no longer an option or are stripped\, and ensuring that you are able to name the guardian to care for your minor children. We will then prepare simple estate plans\, at no cost\, that can be signed the same day. \n\n \n\nIn addition\, we are thrilled to have our colleague\, Kelly Griffin\, who is generously donating her time to speak about the unique adoption issues facing same sex couples. Kelly is an attorney with the domestic relations group of Prince Lobel Tye LLP in Boston\, and she is eager to offer her thoughts and concerns regarding potential issues same sex couples may face with regards to their children.\n\n \n\nWe hope that you will share this message with your friends and loved ones and encourage them to reach out. \n\n \n\nOur event will take place on December 10th at the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank\, 63 State Street\, Newburyport\, Massachusetts and will run from 10:00 - 4:00pm. In order to ensure that we can accommodate everyone\, we are requesting attendees pre-register. Please contact us at 978-465-5407 or info@elderlaw-solutions.com for more information or to sign up.
