Bakers Island Light Station is ONLY accessible to the public through these tours with Essex Heritage - and the trip to the light station is sure to be an adventure! \n\n \n\nBoat tours to Bakers Island Light will be offered through Sunday\, September 4th\, on Friday\, Saturday and Sunday with departures at 11 AM\, 2 PM and 4:15 PM.  Special trips to the Light Station will also be offered on Thursdays throughout the summer\, and on Monday\, July 4th.\n\n \n\nVisit EssexHeritage.org/Boat for more information and to book tickets aboard Naumkeag to see the light!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Bakers Island Light Station\n\nBakers Island Light Station is located on Bakers Island in Salem Sound\, a 60 acre island with a large summer colony. The 10 acre light station is located in the northwest quadrant of the island\, and has been owned and operated by the federal government since 1798. On August 27\, 2014 the deed to Bakers Island Light Station was transferred from the United States government to the Essex National Heritage Commission (Essex Heritage). In June 2015\, Essex Heritage raised $30\,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to preserve this historic landmark. The rest of the island is in private ownership including the Bakers Island Wharf.  Currently the only way for the public to gain access to the light Staion is aboard Essex Heritage?s landing craft\, Naumkeag\, which leaves from Salem Ferry Dock.\n\n \n\nAbout Essex Heritage and the Essex National Heritage Area\n\nEssex Heritage is the non-profit organization that manages the Essex National Heritage Area by developing programs that enhance\, preserve\, and encourage recreation\, education\, conservation and interpretation projects on Boston's North Shore and the Lower Merrimack River Valley.
