SUMMARY:Chris Hipgrave and 6 Weeks in the Antarctic
DESCRIPTION:P&H's Chris Hipgrave is an adventurer through and through\, "Fueled by a passion for all things paddle-sports\, I've competed through out the World in a wide variety of disciplines and explored from the snow capped Bhutanese Himalayas\, to South America\, Europe\, Asia\, Australasia and the Antarctic Peninsula." Yes\, the Antarctic Peninsula in a kayak.\n\n\n\nAccording to Chris he was an\, "impressionable teenager\," in the UK during the Falklands War\, when the tiny islands south of South America leaped into the international spotlight. This ignited an enduring interest in the Antarctic waters. For Chris\, "The thought of visiting the harsh\, raw and lonely environment of the 7th continent and the largest most protected wilderness in the World had a strong appeal." This lead to his joining the Polar Pioneer\, a South Ocean research vessel\, as a kayak guide for exploration of the Falkland Islands\, South Georgia (made famous by Shackleton's harrowing story of survival)\, Elephant Island\, South Shetland Islands\, the Antarctic Peninsula and the ports of Ushuaia and Puerto Williams.\n\n\n\nChris will be bringing his stories\, his sense of adventure\, and the slide presentation from 6 weeks of Antarctic exploration\, to Newbury Kayak and Canoe for an evening of armchair adventure like none before!\n\n\n\nSnacks provided (no Shackleton-part-2 here!) Bring a friend!
