SUMMARY:Breakfast and Business - State Auditor Suzanne Bump
DESCRIPTION:"Making Business and Government Work Better" \n\n \n\nJoin us for our Business and Breakfast program featuring Massachusetts State Auditor Suzanne Bump who will discuss the role the State Auditor's office plays in the Commonwealth. The Office of the State Auditor is committed to ensuring that every dollar given to state government is a dollar well spent and that state agencies and contractors follow the rules when spending public funds. To these ends\, the Office conducts financial\, performance\, and technical assessments of programs\, departments\, agencies\, authorities\, contracts\, and vendors. While these audits and reports may uncover problems and issues\, they also contain recommendations to improve accountability\, efficiency\, and transparency\, making state government work better for the citizens of the Commonwealth.\n\n \n\nTo quote Auditor Bump "Our team strives for professional excellence in safeguarding taxpayer dollars\, uncovering abuse and promoting good management practices for state government." We hope you join us for the breakfast and learn more about the role our government plays in the business world. \n\n \n\nSuzanne M. Bump is the 25th Auditor of the Commonwealth\, one of six constitutional officers in Massachusetts\, and the first female to serve in this role in the state's history.\n\nSince being elected to office in 2010\, Auditor Bump has made it her mission to make government work better. To her\, better government means government that is more effective\, more efficient\, more accountable and more transparent.\n\nTo model the behavior she expects in government\, Auditor Bump has implemented the highest standards of professionalism and performance for her office and strives for innovation through the use of emerging technologies. Upon taking office\, Auditor Bump was able to lead her office in just three years from failing an outside review from the National State Auditor's Association to receiving its highest rating in 2014.\n\nPrior to her election\, Auditor Bump served in Governor Deval Patrick's cabinet as Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development and had represented the Town of Braintree for eight years in House of Representatives. In the private sector\, she worked as a business advocate\, legal counsel\, and has sat on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations including the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and St. Francis House.\n\nAuditor Bump currently chairs the Municipal Finance Oversight Board\, serves on the board of the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission\, the Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System\, the Executive Committee of the National State Auditors Association\, and is a past president of the Association of Governmental Accounting's Boston Chapter.
