DESCRIPTION:Join us for a very informative breakfast program featuring Rick Lord\, CEO\, Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) as he outlines key long-term growth strategies for Massachusetts and the greater Newburyport region that are contained in AIM's recent study:\n\n\n\nBlueprint for the Next Century\n\n\n	WORK FORCE: Government and business must develop the best system in the world for educating and training workers with the skills to allow companies to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy.\n	STRONG BUSINESS CLIMATE: We must create a competitive economic structure across all industries\, geographic regions and populations rather than picking winners and losers.\n	EFFICIENT REGULATION: Establish a world-class state regulatory system that meets the highest standards for efficiency\, predictability\, transparency\, and responsiveness.\n	HEALTH INSURANCE & ENERGY COSTS: We must find a way to moderate the substantial burden that health care and energy costs place on business growth.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAIM is a state-wide employer advocacy and service organization of more than 5\,000 member companies.  Mr. Lord joined AIM in 1991 and served as Executive Vice President for Legislative Policy where he was responsible for AIM's public policy advocacy on health care\, economic development\, taxation\, worker's compensation and other issues of interest to employers in the Commonwealth.  He has been President and CEO since 1999.\n\n\n\nPrior to joining AIM\, Mr. Lord served as Chief of Staff for the Committee on Ways and Means of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.  The Committee is responsible for all legislation involving state funds and revenues\, including the Commonwealth's annual budget and all tax related matters.  Mr. Lord was employed by the Committee for six years\, serving as the Budget Director before being promoted to the Chief of Staff position.\n\nBefore entering public service\, Mr. Lord also worked in financial positions at General Electric Company and McCormack and Dodge\, a Massachusetts-based software company.  He is a 1977 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Psychology.\n\nMr. Lord is a member of several boards\, including Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Boston\, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation\, the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative\, The Children's Trust Fund\, the Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education\, the Commonwealth's Health Policy Commission\, the New England Center for Children\, A.I.M. Mutual Insurance Company\, Inc.\, the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health\, Massachusetts Health Quality Partners and the Massachusetts Health Council.  He also chairs the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Advisory Panel.  He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority.
