NEF Seeks Nominations for 2017 NEF Awards: Due by April 7, 2017
The Newburyport Education Foundation (NEF) is now accepting nominations for the annual Excellence in Education “Ed” Award, Cindy Johnson Volunteer Award and Business Partner Award.
The Ed Award, created in 2004, is given annually to an individual or organization in the community whose leadership, acts and support have raised the level of excellence in the Newburyport Public Schools. The purpose of the award is to honor recipients and raise awareness for the importance of community involvement in the Newburyport Public Schools. The 2004 inaugural award honored Ed Molin, a supporter of the Newburyport Public Schools through many projects and donations that contributed significantly to the quality of the city's public schools. The award for Excellence in Education is awarded annually and is called the Ed Award: Ed for education, Ed for Edward Molin.
The 2016 recipient, John Elwell has been a tireless advocate for the NEF since its inception. He has served on the Board as the chair of many committees and served as our President in 2011. John has devoted his career to public education, starting as an inner-city high school teacher and finishing his career as the Principal of Newburyport High School. He continues to be a role model for our community and an inspiration to others who strive to make a difference for Newburyport’s public schools.
Created in 2016, the Cindy Johnson Volunteer Award, is presented annually to an individual who has given an extraordinary amount of hours, effort, and unselfish support to the NEF over a number of years. The inaugural award was presented to Cindy Johnson. Cindy is a founding member of the Newburyport Education Foundation and has been an integral part of its success for 15 years. She has given tirelessly to the organization to ensure that Newburyport students receive the positive educational experience they deserve. Over the years, Cindy has held almost every title within the organization and has taken on every task in front of her from spearheading new fundraising opportunities to event cleanups.
New this year, the Business Partner Award, will be presented to a company that has made particularly noteworthy contributions to the NEF and Newburyport Public Schools.
Winners for all awards will be announced in mid-April and celebrated at the NEF Awards Night on June 14th at The Phoenix Room.
