National Conference of State Legislatures Legislative Summit

  • Share:
January 20, 2017

The National Conference of State Legislatures Legislative Summit will take place in Boston at the BCEC August 6 - 9, 2017. It is estimated that there will be 6,000 attendees at this meeting.  Attendees will be legislators and legislative staff from around the country as well as lobbyists and others who work with the legislative leaders to help further their agendas.

The meeting is being supported by the Massachusetts Host Committee, comprised of the Speaker, Senate President and House and Senate leadership.  We’re planning a great meeting for their peers and we’re working on showcasing all that the Commonwealth has to offer — from our biotech industry to our great colleges and universities — and of course, all of the fantastic things to see and do in Massachusetts!

To that end, we have two opportunities that you can take part in:

Opportunity 1:  Pre/Post Offers from member businesses
We anticipate that there will be many attendees bringing their families and will plan vacation time around the meeting.
NCSL has a website that will go live at the end of February that will include information on the meeting, registration and things to see and do.

We have been asked to reach out to our members and provide rates and/or offers that could be made available to NCSL attendees as they make their travel plans for August.
Rates/offers should be available from Friday August 4 through Sunday August 13, keeping in mind that the meeting takes place in Boston Sunday, August 6 through mid-day on Wednesday, August 9. They can be for hotels, attractions, restaurants, shops and more!

Call to action:  If you have members interested in offering pre/post opportunities for attendees, please provide the following information to Katie Auer (kauer@openthedoor.biz)  by February 10:
Name of business, website, contact information (phone/email/address)
Information on offer (brief description – 50 – 75 words)
Offers should include rate, restrictions, directions on how to book

Opportunity 2: Massachusetts Booth Giveaways & Booth Staffing
Massachusetts has a booth at the NCSL Tradeshow which takes place August 7 from 10am to 4pm, August 8 from 10am – 4pm and August 9 from 10am to 1pm.
For booth giveaways, we’d once again like to hand out Massachusetts product (candy, chips, candles, etc) provided by members. We need to provide a total of about 3,500 items – so any product you may have would be welcome!

If you’re interested in offering giveaways, please let Katie know by March 31.  We don’t need to know the actual items that you’ll be able to donate to the booth as giveaways but we would like to know an estimate of the number of items so that we can make sure that we have enough to give away.

Thanks for your consideration of both of these opportunities.

The NCSL Boston 2017 website will be a work in progress that we can continue to update as offers and information come in, but I’d like to get as much information possible on the site before it goes live at the end of February so that we can speak to the host committee about how tourism is a committed partner on this program! Also — once it goes live, the legislators will be looking to make sure their regions are represented and I want to make sure that no one is left out!
