Newburyport ArtWalk Wraps Up with Final Gallery Tour on Nov. 4th
 
Newburyport, MA, Oct. 25, 2017 – Art lovers can indulge in beauty and get a head start on holiday shopping at the final Newburyport ArtWalk on Saturday, November 4. Galleries around town are collectively hosting special exhibits, demonstrations, artist discussions and more in a casual reception environment. The public is invited to follow this free, self-guided tour of art galleries from 11-6 p.m.
 
Participating galleries include: Alan Bull Studio, Connor Summers Gallery, Firehouse Center for the Arts, Indigo Artist Studio, Newburyport Art Association, Paper Moon Artisan Gallery, Paula Estey Gallery, Sisters We Three, Somerby’s Landing Sculpture Park, Studio 8 Gallery, Sweethaven Gallery, and Valerie’s Gallery.
 
The ArtWalk map is available at  the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, the passageway between State and Inn Street, and at ArtWalk Partners’ locations.
 
Among the special activities planned for November’s ArtWalk are:
 
Alan Bull Studio: See new life-size portrait paintings from Alan Bull’s red chair portrait series of musicians including Ian Hunter and Richard Thompson along with several other music related portraits and other figurative works. In addition, Vicky Hendrickson will unveil her portraits of seven southern women authors: Katherine Anne Porter, Eudora Welty, Maya Angelou, Harper Lee, Zora Neale Hurston, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Alice Walker. Paula Estey Gallery (PEG): “Barns, Beasts, and Bedrock,” a new exhibition featuring Bonita LeFlore and Brenda Cirioni at PEG will kick off with an  opening reception on Friday, Nov. 3 from 6:30-9 p.m. Meet the artists at the gallery on Saturday, Nov.  4 from noon -1p.m. Other artists on display include Kate Sullivan, Lully Schwartz, David Stone, Pat Forbes, Zsuzsanna Donnell, Linda Tasker, Sam Buck Rosen and Walt Thompson. Valerie’s Gallery: Meet Ipswich-based potter Melynn Allen and painter Colleen Kidder from at Valerie’s Gallery from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 and enjoy some live music. A graphic designer, technical illustrator and painter for more than 20 years, Melynn found her passion working with clay. Colleen is interested in many forms, including oil painting, textile and jewelry design. 26 State Street, Newburyport
 
Newburyport Art Association: On view during ArtWalk will be: Fall Members Juried Show, Part Two, which runs from Nov. 3-18; Featured Artist Show by Nancy Jarvis; and a  watercolor demonstration with Steven Lush from 1:00-4:00pm on Nov. 4 (registration required - click LUSH DEMO to sign up.)  65 Water Street, Newburyport
 
Firehouse Center for the Arts: “Entanglements, an art exhibit featuring Soteris Sam Roussi is on view at Firehouse from Oct. 11-Nov. 5 at the Institution for Savings Art Gallery.  Roussi’s abstractions, done in acrylic and powdered pigment on canvas (tapestry-style), commingle organic forms and the codified icons widely used by hobos and migrants for survival and safe passage during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Indigo Artist Studio: The unique prints of Mary Arthur Pollak will be featured at Indigo Artist Studio. Using a mix of mediums and printmaking techniques, Pollak tears and combines printed papers, uses wax, drawing mediums and fibers to create her work. Known for her abstract landscapes, the monotypes are inspired by color, light and rhythms of the marsh and waters near her home on the North Shore and Maine. Mary will be in the studio to explain the monotype process and variety of techniques demonstrated in her work.  New and previously viewed favorites, small and larger works are available to view or purchase. Connor Summers Gallery: Stop by to see gallery owner Cathy Connor’s latest acrylics as well as Michael Updike’s carved slates, Marcia Hermann’s quirky interiors, Gordon Przybyla’s figure studies, Janice Eaton Updike’s pastel still lifes, and Maria Malatesta paintings. 46 Market Street, Newburyport
 
Studio 8 Gallery: Check out this innovative studio overlooking Waterfront Park. The 2017 Newburyport ArtWalk events are held four Saturdays a year. They are free and open to the public.
