Training & Development Specialist

Job Description
 

Turning Point, Inc., a nonprofit, human services organization founded in 1971 is seeking a Training & Development Specialist to support our growing training needs. This position will work in the Newburyport office with occasional travel to program sites within the Merrimack Valley and North Shore, MA. This is a Monday-Friday position of approximately 25-30 hours per week.

 

The Job

  • Conducts training needs assessment; designs course content, including instructional materials, selects delivery method, and assess training effectiveness
  • Will facilitate "soft skills" trainings to residential Direct Support staff & Program Managers
  • Facilitates New Hire Orientation, coordinates presenters, schedules dates, prepares  and updates orientation materials and tracks attendance
  • Coordinates external training with outside vendors, schools, and the Department of Developmental Services
  • Manages certification instructors and set up for training schedule for First Aid, CPR/AED, as well as Proactive Alternatives for Change (PAC)
  • Ensures all required annual trainings, as well a First Aid, CPR/AED, and PAC re-certification classes are provided to employees prior to expiration dates
  • Ensures communication of available training and certifications classes, as well as outside training opportunities
  • Updates online training database as needed

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Business, Psychology, Organizational Development or a related field with 2-3 years classroom facilitation in a corporate environment is required
  • At least 3+ years’ experience in a training role involving in-house class schedule coordination, assisting with curriculum/training materials design and/or modification, as well as the creation/distribution of participant training documents and materials is required
  • Must have experience regarding the use of a variety of delivery methods, including classroom, workshops, guided study and/or hands on E-training
  • Prior training needs analysis and measuring training effectiveness experience is preferred
  • Advanced computer knowledge with Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and/or Google email. Knowledge of training/tracking software packages, is a plus
  • Demonstrates a high energy level, professional demeanor, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with an attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service orientation and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Must be able to handle a wide variety of people and situations calmly, professionally, and confidentially
  • Demonstrates flexibility, adapting to frequent changes, delays or unexpected events
  • Valid driver’s license, and willingness to drive to local MA program sites for training
