Newburyport Art (NAA) presents three new shows opening in the month of May! 

Soft Structures is a group exhibition that explores fibers and fibrous material as process and metaphor. This exhibit features over 80 artworks in a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, weaving, embroidery, quilting, collage, mixed media and more.

This exhibit is on view in the first-floor Sargent Gallery and second-floor Hartson Gallery. 

FOLIA is a collaborative exhibition featuring works by Amesbury artists Amy Vander Els & Heather Karp. This exhibit explores the quiet beauty and joyful rhythm of leaves and the symbolic meaning behind many that speaks of perseverance, resilience and hope. Thirty-six artworks are displayed amongst spring greenery in the first-floor Hills Gallery. Amy and Heather will give a free artist talk on Thursday, May 21st from 6:00-7:00pm, concluding with Q&A.

The 11th Annual Outdoor Sculpture Garden Exhibition debuted on May 1st, and will remain on view year-round until April 2027. At nearly 3,000 square feet, the Range Lights Sculpture Garden resides behind the historic NAA and is seen and visited by hundreds of people every week. This year’s exhibition features 16 pieces by 10 local and regional artists. The participating artists include; Jeffrey Briggs, Lindley Briggs, Sarah Burns and Mike Platt, Alexis Guieb-Alimbuyuguen, Andrew Henschel, Mae Kenny, Evan Ralph, Michael Updike and Raynor Warner.

About the Band

With countless tunes you know from the first note, rip-roaring gigs you can count on, and a whole lot of energy you’ll take home with you, BoDeans continue to contribute to the American songbook as a tried-and-true institution. Founded and led by original frontman, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Kurt Neumann, the band’s catalog consists of generational anthems such as “Good Things,” You Don’t Get Much,” “Idaho,” and “Closer To Free,” just to name a few. However, they still reflect the soul and spirit of the modern American experience on their fourteenth full-length offering, 4 The Last Time.

“The music of BoDeans has defined much of my life,” muses Kurt. “I consider myself fortunate to be able to do what I enjoy. I wanted to creatively do something positive for the world instead of just taking from it. So, this is what I’ve chosen to do with my life. The music was always about the blue-collar dream of a better life, and it still is.”

BoDeans emerged out of Waukesha, WI in 1986 with the seminal debut, Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams, produced by T Bone Burnett. Following Outside Looking In [1987], Home [1989], and Black and White [1991], Go Slow Down [1993] yielded “Closer To Free,” which famously served as the theme song for the smash hit television series Party of Five. With a sought-after discography, their music landed hundreds of television and film placements. Meanwhile, they transformed into a proven live phenomenon by supporting the likes of U2, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, The Pretenders, and David Bowie in addition to gracing the bills of Farm Aid, Summerfest, and ACL. Speaking to the group’s legacy, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame permanently entrenched BoDeans in the Midwest Artists exhibit. Most recently, 2017’s Thirteen arrived to widespread acclaim from The Chicago Tribune and Glide Magazine who spotlighted the music’s “understated grace—an attribute that no doubt fuels the steadfast approach Kurt Neumann has employed of his thirty-plus years as a ‘BoDean’.” Along the way, NETFLIX’s The Ranch also utilized over 70 tunes from Kurt, and he launched his own podcast Staring At The World.

Celebrating 15 years as a stand up comic, Bob Marley is one of the hottest and most sought-after comedians in the country. He has been featured in his own special on Comedy Central, and is one of the few comics to do the complete late night television circuit, Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn.

Jean sits on the Board of Directors of Newburyport Bank, Riverrun Bancorp and Anna Jacques Hospital where she serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees. Jean also sits on the Investment Subcommittee of Beth Israel Lahey Health. She is the immediate past President of the Newburyport Art Association. Jean earned her MBA from the McCallum Graduate School of Business at Bentley University and a BS in Finance with a minor in Political Science from Merrimack College.

FOLIA is a collaborative exhibition featuring works by Amesbury artists Amy Vander Els & Heather Karp. This exhibit explores the quiet beauty and joyful rhythm of leaves and the symbolic meaning behind many that speaks of perseverance, resilience and hope. Thirty-six artworks are displayed amongst spring greenery in the first-floor Hills Gallery. Amy and Heather will give a free artist talk on Thursday, May 21st from 6:00-7:00pm, concluding with Q&A.

The 11th Annual Outdoor Sculpture Garden Exhibition debuted on May 1st, and will remain on view year-round until April 2027. At nearly 3,000 square feet, the Range Lights Sculpture Garden resides behind the historic NAA and is seen and visited by hundreds of people every week. This year’s exhibition features 16 pieces by 10 local and regional artists. The participating artists include; Jeffrey Briggs, Lindley Briggs, Sarah Burns and Mike Platt, Alexis Guieb-Alimbuyuguen, Andrew Henschel, Mae Kenny, Evan Ralph, Michael Updike and Raynor Warner.

Nurses, first responders, clinicians & educators, join us for this Wellness Delivered training (part of an ongoing series). This free training, held at Link House's Amesbury home office, is open to anyone with an interest in learning more about substance use disorder.

This training series on emerging trends in substance use disorder and behavioral health is generously funded by Anna Jaques Hospital Beth Israel Lahey Health through the Community Benefits grant.

The sessions, led by Donna M. White, RN, PhD, PHCNS-BS, CARN, LADC, are open to the public. Participants will earn three contact hours (CEUs).

About Beatlejuice

For over 24 yrs. Beatlejuice has been faithfully reproducing some of the greatest Beatles songs ever written. Beatlejuice covers every era of the Beatles catalog and onto the solo careers of the boys from Liverpool. Renowned cover band Beatlejuice has been entertaining audiences with spot-on renditions of Beatles classics for more than two decades. Beatlejuice uses a cast of vocalists and arrangements that match the original recordings of the Fab Four note-for-note. Audiences can close their eyes and imagine John, Paul, George and Ringo playing some of the greatest and most influential songs ever written. Beatlejuice performs songs from the full span of the Beatles career, from “Love Me Do” to “Let It Be.” The band was formed in 1994 by the late Brad Delp, renowned vocalist for the band Boston, and drummer John Muzzy from the band Farrenheit. The two friends saw Bob Squires’ Beatles cover band Merseyside play in Newburyport and decided to start their own. Their first official gig was at Bleachers in Salem on a Wednesday night, which Delp and Muzzy advertised with posters that simply said, “ALL BEATLES ALL NIGHT.” The legendary Johnny D’s restaurant and music club in Somerville’s Davis Square served as a home base for the band, which played both nights of every eighth weekend there. Their performances became so popular that the club had to create a special reservation system that would open on Saturday mornings two weeks before the show. After Delp’s passing in 2007, band members Muzzy, Steve Baker, Joe Holaday, Dave Mitchell, Evan Gianoulis and Rich Bartlett continued to perform under the name Beatlejuice and Friends, beginning with memorial concerts for Delp at the Regent Theatre in Arlington. Those friends were a group of vocalists including Mike Girard of The Fools, Jimmy Rogers of Velvet Elvis, Buddy Bernard of Aces & Eights, and Bob Jennings

FOLIA is a collaborative exhibition featuring works by Amesbury artists Amy Vander Els & Heather Karp. This exhibit explores the quiet beauty and joyful rhythm of leaves and the symbolic meaning behind many that speaks of perseverance, resilience and hope. Thirty-six artworks are displayed amongst spring greenery in the first-floor Hills Gallery. Amy and Heather will give a free artist talk on Thursday, May 21st from 6:00-7:00pm, concluding with Q&A.

Traveller – The Chris Stapleton Experience is the brainchild of Alec Antobenedetto, The voice of Traveller. He also plays drums for many of the areas most popular bands including the Peacheaters (An Allman Brothers Band Experience), Confounded Bridge (Celebrating the Music of Led Zeppelin), Pieces of Eight, and many more. Run, walk, stroll on the farm. This race combines some of our favorite things - being outside on the farm with family and friends, changing seasons, sipping cider and cider donuts! All ages and levels welcome + encouraged. 5K race routes wiggles through fields, orchards and forest and includes challenging areas with uneven terrain. It's pretty awesome! Kid's Donut Dashes (400m and 800m) start and finish before 5K race begins. So sorry - no pets permitted on the farm.

About the Through The Doors 
Through The Doors is a Multi-media Tribute to Jim Morrison and The Doors and has been touring since 1980. This re-creation of the sound, look and “feel” of an actual Doors concert is so complete, it never ceases to startle even the seasoned crew. And it starts right away: In the darkened theater, well before the band has taken the stage, anticipation runs hot and the chanting for “Jim” begins. Perhaps it is the audiences’ overwhelming desire to experience a true “Resurrection” that fuels the flames. Or, attribute it if you must, to a legend that survives, even grows, some 40 years after the mysterious death of James Douglas Morrison and the dissolution of his band.

Even now The Doors’ albums continue to sell and Jim’s face still appears on the covers of magazines, film, television and radio. They serve up the “Lizard King” on a daily basis, and still the masses pay homage in droves that surpass even the dizzying heights of the band’s popularity when still “alive”. And yet, a Through The Doors performance goes far beyond the simple duplication of a concert that would have been standard late 1960’s fare.

This performance is more akin to a Broadway show or Vegas Extravaganza – seasoned professional actor/musicians utilizing sound, staging, lighting, and projection equipment that audiences have come to expect. The musicians in Desolation Angels are seasoned veterans of the local music scene North of Boston. They came together in winter of 2021 to try to present the music of Bad Company and Paul Rodgers as authentically as possible.
