"Fire at Sea" an Award-Winning Film
An Academy Award® nominee for Best Documentary Feature, the winner of a European Film Award and the first nonfiction film to ever win the top prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Award-winning filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi jolts the audience into a new understanding of what is happening in the region, the heavy toll of the migrant crisis, and the price of freedom.
Described as “impressionistic and intensely absorbing” by the NY Times, “quietly devastating” by The Boston Globe and a “masterly and moving look at the migrant crisis” by The Guardian. It is a film not to be missed.
The evening will start at 6:00pm with a free wine and cheese reception. After the film screens, Newburyport immigration attorney Becki Jacobson will lead a panel discussion on the status of refugees in Massachusetts today and local interest in Sanctuary Cities.
Note: This film is in Italian with English subtitles.
This event is co-produced by the Firehouse Center for the Arts and the local event production company, Joanne Morris Events LLC.
